Mayor Issues Proclamation; Council Convening Special Meeting

Sanibel Mayor Kevin Ruane issued a proclamation today, March 24, and City Council will convene a special meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, to extend the local state of emergency declaration.

Today’s proclamation extends the cancellation of all Planning Commission and city committee meetings, as well as all special events permits through April 30, as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. The proclamation additionally authorizes city council liaisons to perform duties in any reasonable means other than in-person participation.

Council’s special meeting agenda includes extending the local state of emergency declaration, ratification of the mayor’s proclamation and to allow him to continue taking protective actions. The city has requested anyone who wishes to make a public comment to email the city clerk at pamela.smith@mysanibel.com before 9 a.m. Wednesday. All comments will be read into the record.
