The Sanibel City Council unanimously appointed Pfeifer Realty Group Broker-Owner Eric Pfeifer to serve as a citizen-at-large member of the Sanibel Plan Review Committee. Pfeifer was then elected vice chair with Calli Johnson-DuPont as chair of the committee.
The Sanibel Plan Review Committee plays a vital role in shaping the island’s future by reviewing, updating, and recommending changes to the Sanibel Plan—the city’s comprehensive land use and development plan, first adopted in 1976 and nationally recognized for its balance of environmental protection and responsible growth.
The plan addresses:
• Land use and zoning
• Density and building regulations
• Transportation and infrastructure
• Conservation of wetlands, beaches, and wildlife habitats
• Community services and overall quality of life
As a living document, the Sanibel Plan is periodically reviewed to ensure alignment with state mandates and the evolving needs of the local community.
The committee serves as a bridge between residents, city officials, and technical staff, holding public meetings, gathering community input, evaluating performance (including lessons learned from Hurricane Ian), and recommending amendments to the City Council and the Planning Commission.
“I am happy to continue to volunteer my time and efforts to keep making Sanibel one of the best places to live and work,” said Pfeifer.
Through this leadership role, Pfeifer brings deep community knowledge and a conservation-focused perspective, reinforcing Pfeifer Realty Group’s commitment to preserving the island’s character while supporting thoughtful, resilient planning.

We hope the new Sanibel Plan Review Committee will PLEASE recommend an amendment to allow homeowners to install IMPERMEABLE (impervious) pavers for their driveway and path to their front door.
The current Sanibel homeowner’s pavers rules are absolutely too restrictive!
Go Eric!! We need some change.
