Police Respond to Four Vehicle Crashes This Week

Sanibel Police responded to four vehicle crashes this week.

Thomas Rooney of Ottawa, Ill., was exiting the driveway of Bandy Beach, 1059 Buttonwood Lane, at 12:46 p.m. Monday, March 21, when his vehicle was sideswiped as a vehicle operated by Alan Baez Garcia of Tampa, Fla., entered the driveway.

John Hendricks of Sanibel was traveling west on Periwinkle Way at 2:17 p.m. Monday, March 21 when he stopped for traffic near Periwinkle Place shopping center and the back of his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by John Scheer of Fort Myers and the back of Scheer’s vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Sierra Stalls of Smithfield, Va. No injuries were reported. Scheer was cited for following too closely.

William Nino of New York, N.Y., was traveling west on Periwinkle Way at 5:04 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, when a vehicle operated by William Waller of Sanibel pulled into his lane of travel from the parking lot of Island Pizza. Waller was cited for failing to yield to oncoming traffic when making a left turn. No injuries were reported.

Peter Koury of Sanibel was traveling east on Periwinkle Way at 7:04 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, when he stopped for traffic in the 1800 block and the back of his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Esmeralda Lorenzo of Clewiston, Fla. No injuries were reported.

Animal Reports

A deceased cormorant was found Friday, March 18 on the beach near Loggerhead Cay and removed.

Three iguanas were reported Friday, March 18 often in the backyard of a home in the 1500 block of Sandpiper Circle in The Dunes neighborhood. Homeowner advised one was sighted digging.

A coyote was sighted Tuesday, March 22 on Boulder Drive in the East Rocks neighborhood.

Coyotes were reported Tuesday, March 22 in the area of 1633 Periwinkle Way.

An iguana was reported Wednesday, March 23, sighted in the afternoons for three days near the canal in the Shell Harbor neighborhood.

A deceased pelican was reported Thursday, March 24 in the mangroves near Tennis Place Court.
