The City of Sanibel announced on Wednesday, March 18, that the Pond Apple Park Trail from Bailey Road to the retention pond is temporarily closed after a fallen tree blocking the path was found to contain a large, active bee nest, posing a safety hazard to trail users.

The closed section will remain inaccessible until a specialist can safely remove the bees and crews can clear the fallen tree debris. There is no estimated reopening date at this time; the removal is being scheduled as quickly as possible.

Residents and visitors are asked to:
• Avoid the closed section of the trail
• Do not attempt to approach or disturb the bee nest
• Use alternate routes and/or other park facilities and trails
