Rec Center Hosting Recreation Reimagined Open House

The community is invited to the Recreation Reimagined Open House from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at the Sanibel Recreation Center, 3880 Sanibel Captiva Rd. Take part in the Sanibel Recreation Comprehensive Assessment by sharing ideas and comments at four “charrette” stations set up in the gym any time during the open house.

The community’s participation is important as public input will be a key component of the study and help inform decision that will guide the future development of the city’s recreation facilities and services. The goal is to reimagine all areas of Sanibel’s recreation department — Recreation Center, Center4Life and outdoor sports programs — to better meet the recreation needs of residents of all ages.

Family-Friendly Activities Saturday
• Recreation staff will be on hand to supervise children during activities so parents can take part in this important conversation
• Leisure pool and splash pad will be open for family swim time with lifeguards on duty. Children 12 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18 while in the pool.
• Spoonbill Room will have crafts and a Foosball table
• There will be sidewalk chalk and an open playground for children
• Kiwanis Club of Sanibel will serve free hot dogs, popcorn and drinks
• Enter a free raffle to win a tote bag filled with goodies
• Tours of the Recreation Center will be available

Second In-Person Chance at Farmer’s Market
Anyone who can not attend the open house on Saturday will have a chance to share their thoughts the following day at the Sanibel Farmer’s Market on City Hall grounds, 800 Dunlop Rd. There will be a booth set up from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, April 10 with the BerryDunn project team available to answer questions and hear ideas or comments. Anyone who stops by the booth can enter the free raffle for a chance to win the tote bag full of goodies.

Social Point Online Participation
A Social Point online platform has been set up with three exciting tools — multiple choice survey, two forum questions and an ideas wall — for further community engagement. There can be as many ideas and comments as the public wishes to share in forum questions and on the ideas wall. Return to Social Point multiple times through May 1. Comments are anonymous and posted for others to view and respond with a thumbs up or down.
