The Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club heard from the Sanibel City Manager Dana Souza, who gave his State of the City Update.
Souza shared the city’s financial health post-hurricanes, taxable property values, the Council’s strategic goals, and the hiring of a Chief Resilience Officer.
The role of the CRO includes establishing practical and actionable strategies to enhance the island’s resilience to environmental threats and challenges, such as rising sea levels, hurricanes, and other climate-related impacts, as well as increasing the city’s sustainable practices, including the adoption of renewable energy.
Souza also shared the breakdown of our annual residential taxes.
He has served as city manager since November 2021. In that role, Souza oversees the administration of all municipal departments, excluding the Legal Department, ensuring the effective execution of City programs in alignment with City Council policies and the City Code of Ordinances.
With a focus on strategic leadership and operational excellence, Souza guides the organization in delivering responsive, efficient, and high-quality services to Sanibel’s residents and business community.
He was the community services director, deputy city manager, and interim city manager for the City of Naples before taking the position at Sanibel.
Souza has 40 years of experience in public administration, and he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from Roger Williams University and a Graduate Certificate in Public Administration from the University of Central Florida.
