Alicia Shannon is CEO of The Children’s Advocacy Center, whose mission is to create a safe and nurturing space for children affected by abuse and neglect, where they can share their stories, heal, and thrive with comprehensive support. She helps lead the agency in its strategic plan, sets the tone and cultural framework, and serves as the main external voice.

The Children’s Advocacy Center is 1 of 26 in the state of Florida, with over 900 centers nationwide. This branch of CAC is one of the largest in Florida and was founded in 1981. It serves Lee, Charlotte, Hendry, and Glades Counties. The CAC provides a Child Protection Team, Family Advocacy, Family Alliance, Prevention, Community Awareness, and Outreach/Beesley’s Paw Prints. All of the services are free.

In the past year, they provided 755 medical exams, 2,375 hours of therapy, and served 7,588 people in Southwest Florida.

Shannon graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Secondary Education. She was previously the Adoption Specialist for The Children’s Network, and the Executive Director of both the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center and Our Mother’s Home, a group home for teen mothers in the foster care system. Her previous experience in child welfare, along with her desire to be a role model and leader for young people in the community, led her to her home at the Children’s Advocacy Center.
