Rotary Club Welcomes Sanibel Vice Mayor As Featured Speaker

provided to The Santiva Chronicle

The Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club is pleased to welcome Holly D. Smith as the featured speaker at its weekly meeting on Friday, April 17.

A dedicated public servant with nearly 35 years of service to the Sanibel community and beyond, Smith currently serves as Vice Mayor of the City of Sanibel and President of the Florida League of Cities. Her leadership spans local, regional, and national levels, with a strong focus on advocacy, environmental stewardship, and municipal governance.

Smith represents Sanibel on several key regional and state bodies, including the Lee County Tourist Development Council, Horizon Council, and as the Governor’s Appointee to the Federal South Florida Ecosystem Restoration Task Force. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the National League of Cities and contributes to national disaster response efforts through the organization’s Disaster Ad-Hoc Committee.

Her commitment to local government advocacy has earned her recognition as a Florida League of Cities “Home Rule Hero” each year since 2018. In 2023, she was honored with the prestigious E. Harris Drew Municipal Official Lifetime Achievement Award for her leadership following the impacts of Hurricane Ian.

“We are honored to have Vice Mayor Smith join us,” said the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club. “Her experience and leadership provide valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities facing our community and communities across Florida.”

The Rotary Club invites members, guests, and those interested in learning more about local leadership and civic engagement to attend. Guests are welcome to attend and may join us with a nominal fee to cover breakfast.
