The Sanibel-Captiva Rotary announces that the recipient of a $4,800 Rotary District Grant is Community Housing Resources. Even three years after Hurricanes Ian, Milton, and Helene, there remains an unmet need to support the infrastructure of residents’ homes.
CHR will use the funds to improve accessibility to three of its properties by replacing staircases leading to residents’ homes. In CHR’s grant application, they noted that the need for Rotary’s assistance was critical to CHR making the repairs, as the request does not align with funding opportunities currently available through public and private sources.
The proposed staircase repairs will be made using the most eco-friendly and sustainable materials, accommodating the accessibility needs of both current and future residents. Buildings owned by CHR will have all stairs replaced, along with railings and safety landings made of composite materials.
Since 1979, CHR has provided safe, quality, affordable housing for families and individuals who work in and serve our island communities. Retail workers, service staff, even teachers, first responders, and more may not earn enough for a place to call home.
By addressing this need, CHR enables individuals to realize their full potential. Working together with diverse stakeholders, CHR aims to sustain the well-being of the people of our islands, building a strong, caring, and resilient community for all.
The Rotary District grants fund small-scale, short-term activities that address needs in our community and communities abroad. In 2023-2024, Rotary awarded 485 District Grants totaling $30 million.
As Rotarians, we provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.
Rotary is a global network of more than 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.
The Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club achieves this through engaging meetings, events, and service opportunities, as well as our support of non-profit organizations, our members, and our community.
