The Sanibel Captiva Audubon Society will host three lectures for the 2025 season. Dr. Eric Milbrandt of the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation will kick off the mini-lecture series on Monday, Jan. 13, with an update on the local mangrove recovery and resiliency from major storm events.
“Eric is a wealth of information,” said SanCap Audubon President Adam Sauerland. “There are few people in the area who not only have the knowledge of mangroves that Eric does but has also personally experienced some of the worst storms the area has endured over the past 20 years.”
Dr. Milbrandt is the director of SCCF’s Marine Laboratory. His research includes water quality, harmful algae blooms, and the effects of seagrass and oyster reef communities. And his knowledge of keystone species, especially mangroves, is pivotal for the health of our estuaries for generations to come.
Dr. Milbrandt will speak at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at the Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way. Seating opens at 5:30 p.m. A $10 suggested donation is welcome at the door. Questions can be emailed to san.capaudubon@gmail.com.
