Come early and as you are (PJs encouraged) for the best deals.

This year’s Labor Day weekend promises to be extra festive and cleverly lucrative for local early risers as a result of the SanCap Chamber’s inaugural Sanibel Island Sunrise Sale on Saturday, Aug. 30, from 7:07 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participating retail shops will open at the crack of dawn to offer exclusive deals, tiered sales, up to 50 percent discounts, BOGOs, free gifts with purchases, and giveaways. In-store perks include complementary breakfasts, mimosas, chair massages, and other incentives to lose sleep.

“Sanibel residents and visitors are accustomed to getting out of bed early to catch the best shelling and birding, and now we give them one more reason to set their alarms,” said John Lai, SanCap Chamber president and chief executive officer. “This is a fun, collaborative event to drive summer season traffic and for shopper to discover the island’s buzzy retail scene and shop small and local.”

More than 40 shops across the Sanibel retail landscape have confirmed participation on the Sunrise Sale map and passport. Shoppers will receive a passport sticker from participating retailers they visit that day. Those with 10 or more stickers are eligible to enter drawings for a grand-prize island merchandise basket valued at more than $1,400 and valuable gift certificates for various stores and island experiences. The maps-passports are available at the SanCap Chamber Visitor Center at 1159 Causeway Blvd. and at participating merchants.

Audrey and Josh Stewart, co-owners of Adventures in Paradise Outfitters and A Little Adventure boutique, proposed the idea of Sunrise Sale to the chamber, Lai said.

“Think of it as Black Friday, island style, only sunrise instead of midnight,” said Audrey Stewart. “More than just the year’s best deals, it’s a new tradition that brings neighbors, friends, and visitors together for a morning full of laughter, camaraderie, and island spirit. We can’t wait to kick off the day with the best deals and a whole lot of pajama-party fun.”
