Jim Fowler, publisher of The Sanibel-Captiva Nature Calendar, today announced a donation of $1,000.00 to the “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society. This is the 37th annual donation from this publication to a conservation organization. Since first publishing the calendar in 1988 it has become a tradition each fall to donate a portion of the proceeds to one of the organizations listed inside the rear cover.
The “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society was selected because of its support of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s mission to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats at the “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge. The Society is the dedicated “Friends of the Refuge” organization that empowers the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge Complex through independent funding that advances conservation, education, research, and advocacy. The Society’s many events and programs help inform and involve thousands of the Refuge’s visitors every year.
Fowler added …. “The Refuge is the first place I go when I return to Sanibel. There is always something exciting to see regardless of the season! The visitor center (currently closed for hurricane restoration) is an exciting adventure on its own with hands-on exhibits interpreting Refuge wildlife and habitat.
Last fall $500.00 was donated to Sanibel Sea School. The year before $500.00 was donated to Turtle Time on Fort Myers Beach. To date this publication has donated $29,689.25 to conservation organizations in Florida.
