Jim Fowler, publisher of The Sanibel-Captiva Nature Calendar, today announced a donation of $500.00 to the Sanibel Sea School. This is the 36th annual donation from this publication to a conservation organization. Since first publishing the calendar in 1988 it has become a tradition each fall to donate a portion of the proceeds to one of the organizations listed inside the rear cover.
The Sanibel Sea School was selected because its many hands-on educational programs about our local ocean environment. From one-day to full week courses there is a program to fit every interest. Their mission statement says it all: “At Sanibel Sea School our vision is a world where all people value, understand and care for the ocean. Our mission is to improve the ocean’s future, one person at a time.”
“With 70 percent of the earth’s surface covered by oceans it is imperative we learn about the plants and animals in this water ecosystem,” added Fowler. “The Sanibel Sea School provides various programs tailored to all age groups and interest. Their efforts to involve disadvantaged and at-risk children in ocean educational programs is to be applauded. Spending a day at the ocean can be an unforgettable life-changing experience for a child or teen. I encourage everyone to enroll in one or more of their programs – you and the ocean will both benefit.”
Last fall $500.00 was donated to Turtle Time on Fort Myers Beach. The year before $1,000.00 was donated to The International Osprey Foundation on Sanibel. To date this publication has donated $28,689.25 to conservation organizations in Florida.
