Sanibel Causeway Crews Working Extended Hours to Complete Project

The Florida Department of Transportation has announced extended hours to complete the Sanibel Causeway project before year’s end.

For the remainder of December, motorists crossing the bridge should expect periodic lane closures and traffic shifts from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays. Lane closures on eastbound McGregor Boulevard, between the toll plaza and Port Comfort Road, are to be expected from 6 a.m. to noon daily for material delivery.

Asphalt crews will pave the remaining portions of the rebuilt roadway as sections are ready, and weather permitting. Once that is completed, crews will shift vehicles onto the permanent roadway. The contractor expects to open two westbound lands through the toll plaza once this goal is achieved.

Flaggers will be controlling traffic during lane closures. Motorists should plan for traffic delays and allow additional travel time if crossing the causeway after 7 p.m. Monday to Friday.
