provided to The Santiva Chronicle

Emily Ankerson is named executive director of the Sanibel Community House.

The Sanibel Community House and Sanibel Community Association have announced Emily Ankerson as the new executive director.

Ankerson has served as executive director of the Captiva Civic Association since 2021 and previously worked as an administrator at an arts education nonprofit in West Palm Beach, Fla.

She holds a master’s degree from Saint Michael’s College in Vermont and dedicated the beginning years of her career to education before entering the nonprofit sector.

The mission of the SCA is to enrich community spirit through educational, cultural, and social gatherings in the historic Sanibel Community House, built in 1927. It has long been a gathering place for neighbors and friends, and its walls hold a rich history.

The community house lies in the “heart” of the islands, midway between the water’s edge and Captiva Island. It thrives on hosting educational programs, social gatherings, weddings, classes, meetings, demonstrations, fundraisers, and many other special events and activities throughout the year.

As the executive director, Ankerson will bring her skills in strategic leadership, experience in nonprofit growth and brand-building, a positive and collaborative community presence, and will strive to grow and foster member relationships and support for the community house.

Most importantly, she brings her enthusiasm for the organization’s bright and successful future and for fulfilling and enhancing its mission.
