Sanibel Fire & Rescue District marine unit responded to a fire on a shrimp boat Thursday, March 17 near the Sanibel Lighthouse. The U.S. Coast Guard also arrived on scene and removed three crew members from the boat. When fire crews arrived, there was light smoke showing and a crew from a second shrimp boat was helping to extinguish the fire. A Bonita marine crew extended a fire hose to the boat until the fire was extinguished. Numerous marine units from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Cape Coral, Iona and North Collier were also on the scene. No medical assistance was required for the shrimp boat crew members.
