Sanibel City Council on September 9 recognized Deputy Director of Planning Craig Chandler for 10 years of service to the city in the Planning Department. Chandler has a master’s degree in city and regional planning from Clemson University. He was made Deputy Director in 2023 and was involved in the Shared-Use Master Plan update as well as FEMA community assistance efforts.

Chandler also headed up a housing survey post-Hurricane Ian. He worked on the Sanibel Plan update and the Transportation Master Plan. Chandler drafted 11 amendments to the Land Development Code post-storm.

“We thank Craig for his contributions not only to the city but to the citizens and communities we serve,” concluded Crystal Mansell, Director of Human Resources and Risk Management.

“You have stood up so much for the Sanibel Plan,” Councilmember Holly Smith told Chandler. “We thank you for the work you have done on our ordinances to help us rebuild in a better way.”

“We’re only as good as our staff,” said Councilmember John Henshaw. “We’re all temporary up here [on the dais]. Craig Chandler is the rock, all the staff, including Paula [McMichael, Director of Planning]. You’re the reason why the city has its reputation.”
