The City of Sanibel invites residents, business owners and other community stakeholders to attend Sanibel Plan Update Community Workshop No. 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, at the Sanibel Community House, 2173 Periwinkle Way.
The open-house meeting will provide an update on the Sanibel Plan revision process and summarize community input received through surveys and public meetings. Participants will review public meeting themes, updated data, and potential changes and analyses related to the Sanibel Plan.
Attendees will also participate in interactive discussions and provide feedback on five primary topics:
• The natural environment
• Resiliency and preparedness
• Infrastructure and community recreation
• Transportation and mobility
• Preserving Sanibel as a livable, unique community
During a hands-on activity, each participant will receive a set amount of simulated money representing the cost of projects within each topic. Participants will decide which projects should receive priority, reflecting the real funding trade-offs the city faces. Afterward, the group will discuss the choices and identify which topics received the greatest community support.
Public participation remains an essential part of the planning process, helping ensure the updated Sanibel Plan reflects the community’s vision while protecting the island’s environment, character and quality of life.
