Sanibel Library Board Taking Applications For Open Seat

The Sanibel Public Library District Board of Commissioners is accepting applications to fill a vacant seat until the next general election in 2026. Interested applicants must be a resident of Sanibel to qualify. In making an appointment, the Board may consider the following:

• A candidate’s knowledge of the Sanibel Public Library District
• A candidate’s commitment to library advocacy
• A candidate’s ability to be present at meetings in person

The Sanibel Public Library District is governed by a seven-member board of commissioners, elected by the voters of Sanibel for a four-year term. The Board sets the millage rate, prepares, considers, and adopts a budget, sets policy, and employs an executive director to be the administrator and manager of the Library. When vacancies occur on the Board, the remaining commissioners may appoint a qualified person to fill the seat until the next general election, at which time an election shall be held to fill the vacancy for the remaining term, if any.

The Board meets monthly on the 4th Thursday at 9:00 a.m. Additional meetings or workshops may be scheduled as needed. The Board operates under the Sunshine Law. All discussion and deliberation must take place at a publicly advertised meeting. Per Section 112.3145(1)(a) of the Florida Statutes, new Board Commissioners are required to submit a financial disclosure statement within 30 days of assuming a commission seat.

Applications can be submitted via eform on the Library’s Board of Commissioners’ website and via physical form in person at the Sanibel Public Library District, located at 770 Dunlop Road, Sanibel.
