Public Works Employee Robbie Dowling is recognized as Employee of the Fourth Quarter by the Sanibel City Council.

Robbie Dowling of the Public Works Department was named Employee of the 4th Quarter, fiscal year 2024, at the November 12 City Council meeting. This recognition is by decided by his peers.

Dowling was hired in 2021 as a Utilities Maintenance Technician 3 in the Public Works Department, Utilities Division. In 2024, he was promoted to his current position as Utilities Maintenance Supervisor.

“Robbie was a key player in restoring wastewater services on the island following hurricanes Helene and Milton,” said Crystal Mansell, Director of Human Resources and Risk Management. “Robbie assisted with the application and subsequent award of $22.5 million in FDEP grants for lift station control panel replacements, wastewater collection system repairs, Middle Gulf Drive force main replacement, reuse system repairs, and effluent disposal pond repairs.”

Peer comments submitted with Dowling’s nomination include:

• Robbie is always helpful and will always fill in where needed and has stepped up on more than one occasion.

• Since Ian, Robbie has worked tirelessly to restore our wastewater treatment system on Sanibel. Upon his supervisor’s departure, Robbie stepped in and immediately took on two roles.

• Robbie doesn’t complain and always has a smile for his coworkers. He is reliable and a very hard worker for the city and deserves to be recognized.

Five other employees received nominations for the honor: Roberto Angeles, Tradesworker; Pete Moser, Wastewater Plant Operator III; Franklin Rocha, Tradesworker; Jermaine Sears, Tradesworker; and Steven Schweitzer, Facilities & Ops Supervisor.

The award for Employee of the Quarter is $250 plus eight hours of bonus leave.
