Sanibel Police Made 58 Traffic Stops; Six Drivers Had No License

Sanibel Police initiated a total of 58 traffic stops from Jan. 30 to Feb. 5, which resulted in the issuance of 38 citations, eight written warnings and 28 verbal warnings. Six of the drivers were found to never had a driver’s license issued to them.

A driver was stopped on Wednesday, Jan. 31 for a tag light violation and subsequently issued a warning for the tag light, as well as a citation for unknowingly driving with a suspended license and a criminal citation for failure to register a vehicle. The driver’s license and vehicle tag were seized and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

A second traffic stop on Wednesday, Jan. 31 for driving on the wrong side of the road and running a stop sign resulted in citations for careless driving, running the stop sign, not wearing a seatbelt and a criminal citation for never having a license issued. The vehicle also had a seize tag order and was towed from the scene.

Two traffic stops on Thursday, Feb. 1 for excessive speed resulted in the drivers receiving criminal citations for never having a driver’s license. One driver received a warning for speeding and the other was issued a speeding citation.

Two more traffic stops on Friday, Feb. 2 for speeding resulted in both drivers receiving criminal citations for never having a driver’s license and warnings for speeding.

A traffic stop on Monday, Feb. 7 for running a stop sign resulted in a criminal citation for never having a driver’s license and a citation for running the stop sign.

Police responded to reports of one burglary and one theft last week.

A criminal citation, also known as a Notice To Appear, is issued in lieu of a physical arrest. Recipients are required to appear in a designated court at a specified date and time.
