Sanibel Police Reports For Week of Jan. 7, 2025

Ashley Adams was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after a single-vehicle crash on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, 2024. Sanibel Police responded to the accident at 9:29 p.m. in the 2600 block of West Gulf Drive, where officers found an SUV with its front end in the ditch. No injuries were reported. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Adams for probation violations after her DUI arrest, and she remains in the Lee County Jail as of Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Gilbert Rivera of Immokalee, Fla., was arrested Thursday, Jan. 2, and charged with driving with a revoked license as a habitual offender. Rivera also has a warrant out of Collier County. He remains in the Lee County Jail as of Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Two traffic stops resulted in criminal citations issued to the drivers.

Police stopped a vehicle for traveling 68 mph in a 30 mph zone on New Year’s Day, and issued the driver a criminal citation for unlawful speed.

Police stopped a vehicle on Saturday, Jan. 4, for excessive speed, failing to maintain a single lane, and failing to stop at a stop sign. Police noted that the driver did not show signs of impairment and issued a criminal citation for reckless driving.

In the first seven days of 2025, officers issued 14 traffic citations, two written and 31 verbal warnings, and responded to two vehicle accidents.
