Sanibel Police Respond To Scene Of An Alligator Bite

The Sanibel Police Department responded to the scene of an alligator bite at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 15 at 2477 Periwinkle Way. Police say the victim was using the pond to wash his hands when he was bitten by the alligator. The victim was able to free himself and call 911.

Individuals on scene were able to apply a tourniquet until medical assistance arrived. It was determined the victim sustained a serious injury to his right forearm. He was transported by Lee County EMS to an area hospital for further treatment.

Florida Fish and Wildlife, along with a Florida State trapper are currently on scene attempting to capture the alligator.

Assisting agencies included the Orlando Police Department, Jacksonville Beach Police Department, Panama City Police Department, St. Petersburg Police Department, Sanibel Fire Department, and Lee County EMS.
