The Sanibel Recreation Center is hosting Touch-a-Truck on Saturday, October 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and it’s the kickoff event for Florida City Week. Florida City Week is an annual statewide celebration organized by the Florida League of Cities to raise awareness about the importance of municipal government and the services cities provide.
The first hour, 10 to 11 a.m., will be sensory-friendly with no flashing lights or sirens, making it accessible for all. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., participants can experience the whole event with lights, sounds, and demonstrations.
This hands-on community day offers children the opportunity to climb aboard a variety of vehicles, including fire engines, construction trucks, police cruisers, ambulances, and utility vehicles.
Attendees can also meet the professionals who operate these machines and learn about their essential roles in keeping Sanibel safe and running smoothly.
Some of this year’s participants include:
• Sanibel Fire Department
• Sanibel Police Department
• Lee County Mosquito Control
• Waste Management (WM)
• Lee County Emergency Medical Services
• And more!
Adding to the fun, the Sanibel Fireman’s Benevolent Group will be on hand selling their 2026 Sanibel Firefighter calendar, featuring local Sanibel firefighters. Guests will also have the opportunity to take photos with the firefighters during the event.
This free, family-friendly event is the perfect mix of fun and education—don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the memories. No registration is required.
