LCEC restored power to Captiva and essential services on Thursday, Oct. 20, and estimates power to be restored by the end of the month to all of Sanibel. Each island property owner is required to follow certain steps before the city will notify LCEC to restore power to an address.
Every structure with an electrical service greater than 600 amps require a licensed Florida engineer provide an inspection and approval of the existing electrical equipment.
• If electrical equipment is undamaged, an approved-for-power engineer report must be provided to the city by email.
• If electrical equipment is damaged, a licensed electrical contractor must make repairs then have an engineer reinspect the repairs and provide the approved-for-power engineer report to the city by email.
•Once the approved-for-power engineer report is received by the city, they will notify LCEC power can be restored to the address.

• If undamaged, a contractor’s approved-for-power report can be provided to the city by email.
• If damaged, a licensed electrical contractor must make the required repairs then contact the city by email to schedule in inspection.
• Once the inspection passes, the city will notify LCEC power may be restored.
