Sanibel Solutions headed a discussion of its latest dashboard data. The data changes constantly, and it can be accessed by clicking here. John Lai, President and CEO of the Sanibel and Captiva Chamber of Commerce, spoke on behalf of the group’s efforts and said, “We’re not just looking backward, we’re looking forward as well. For example, the Shell Museum is so far having a record year in visitation.”

Sanibel Solutions member Eric Pfeifer said, “I hope you see from the data that it’s not a foregone conclusion that we will be back to normal in the future. It is imperative we do everything in our power to get businesses back as soon as possible.” Pfeifer said he recently traveled to many communities comparable to Sanibel in size and population and concluded, “We live and work in one of the best communities in the country.”
Pfeifer threw out some suggestions that would help the economy:
• A Town Center with art galleries and artwork
• Outdoor seating at restaurants
• Festivals and outdoor music events
“You have the chance to shape the future economy of Sanibel,” he told Council members. He offered to work with City Council on an economic strategic plan.
