Senior Couple Grateful For Support From FISH

FISH of SanCap recently provided a helping hand to a longtime Sanibel couple recovering from surgery by delivering nutritious meals, much-needed medical equipment, and a thoughtful “get well” box filled with comfort items.

The couple, who are 15-year island residents and wish to remain anonymous, shared their gratitude in a heartfelt note to the organization.

“Thanks so much for the tremendous support you give to the island and its residents. Whether it is delivering meals after a devastating hurricane or providing medical equipment to those who need help following surgery, our lives are better because of FISH. Sanibel is very proud to have such a wonderful organization. Thanks again for all of your effort!”

FISH Senior Services Director Erika Arnowitz said this kind of care reflects the organization’s everyday mission.

“When someone on the island needs a little extra help — like a warm meal, a walker, or just a friendly voice checking in — we’re here,” said Arnowitz. “We’re neighbors helping neighbors, and that sense of community is what makes Sanibel and Captiva so special,” said Arnowitz.

Through its Senior Services program, FISH supports islanders in maintaining their independence, health, and well-being.

Services include meal delivery, medical equipment loans, transportation to appointments and errands, wellness checks, and social programs like the monthly Friendly Faces Luncheon and educational workshops, designed to reduce isolation and connect seniors.

Arnowitz said, “It’s the small acts of kindness that add up to something bigger — a stronger, more caring community. Whether you’ve lived here for decades or just arrived, FISH is here when you need us.”

Community members can help make stories like this possible by volunteering or donating to support FISH programs.
