Sewer Rate Schedule Approved; Boat Ramp Pilot Program Moves Forward

City Council approved Resolution 22-046 on Monday, establishing a revised schedule of rates for the Sanibel Sewer System, which levies a 3.0 percent increase in residential, commercial, and reclaimed water rates.

The rates are based on recommendations from the annual sufficiency study for the sewer system, and reflect increased personnel expenses, inflationary pressure on operating supplies, and an increased capital improvement plan related to the ongoing repair and renewal of the aging system infrastructure.

The rates, summarized here, are required to meet the projected operating and capital costs to maintain the city’s investment in the treatment plant and sewer system and enable the system to meet its debt coverage requirements and covenants.
