Shell Find: Junonia at Turner

Shelley of Texas finds a Junonia shell on the beach at Blind Pass

Shelley of Boyd, Texas, found the rare Junonia shell on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Blind Pass Beach near Captiva Island. Shelley and her family visit Sanibel Island for a month every year, and she says they shell for 6 to 8 hours per day during their entire visit. They usually go shelling at Turner Beach, but chose Blind Pass Beach on Wednesday. “It was the best day of my life,” said Shelley. She also shared that they had visited Big Hickory Island two weeks prior and helped 40 to 50 baby sea turtles make it out to the water.
