Shell Islands Garden Club will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Sanibel Community House for a presentation by local landscape architect Mariah Landry.
Anyone interested in island horticulture and gardening is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served at 10 a.m., followed by Ms. Landry’s program at 10:30 a.m.
Landry will discuss the impact of this summer’s hurricane season on our barrier islands and the idea of incorporating resiliency when restoring our natural environment.
She began her career at R.S. Walsh Landscaping, where she learned to appreciate subtropical native flora. In the decade since, she has established herself as a trusted landscape architect in Southwest Florida.
Landry says she tries to inspire others to embrace the beauty of native vegetation through her Fort Myers-based enterprise, VIVA Landscapes.
Shell Islands Garden Club was founded in 1992 to study the art of floral arranging, to promote better horticultural practices, to encourage all phases of home gardening, and to help preserve our islands’ natural resources.
The club is a Fort Myers/Lee County Garden Council member. SIGC meets on the second Tuesday morning of each month from October through May. Membership dues are $35 yearly.
