The Sanibel City Council unanimously voted to set the rate for the collection and disposal of solid waste, recyclables, and horticultural waste for all residential dwelling units.

Deputy City Manager and Chief Financial Officer Steve Chaipel explained that homeowners will see a 6.2 percent increase for regular curbside collection. The City’s administration fee remains the same.

“We have to understand this is a requirement and we are following a statute,” said Vice Mayor Holly Smith.

The rate of assessment amounts to $525.66 for each dwelling unit applying for or using curbside Solid Waste, Recyclables, and Horticultural Waste collection and disposal services for Fiscal Year 2025-2026, based on 4,069 estimated dwelling units.

This assessment appears on property owners’ tax bills.
