Summer Hours and Upcoming Programs at Sanibel Public Library

Sanibel Public Library has planned in-person programs including summer reading programs, storytimes, tech help, and virtual author programs. The library’s public online calendar has the most up-to-date information about programs for children and adults.

Summer Hours are in effect from June 1 through Aug. 31. The library will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

These upcoming Library programs are open to the public. No registration is required:

• Kids programs:

The CROW Wildlife Program at the library.

Join Ms. Shannon on Wednesday, May 29 at 3 p.m. for an octopus painting Crafternoon full of fun. A variety of craft supplies will be available along with examples of craft options to complete. Ms. Shannon will guide the program- perfect for ages four and up.

Family Storytime will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 31. Storytime is for children age five and under and their caregiver. Head to the Library’s online calendar to see the full month’s schedule for Family Storytime.

All are invited to join us for the “Adventure Begins at Your Library” Summer Reading Kickoff Party on Saturday, June 1 at 10 a.m.! The party includes games, snacks, raffles, and surprise guests. You will be able to sign up for the summer reading program to earn books for Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. If you can’t make the party, you can still sign-up to log reading both in-person at the library and on the library’s website: www.sanlib.org.

On Tuesday, June 4 at 10:30 a.m. babies and their caregivers are invited to participate in a short storytime and sensory play filled with literacy activities and more! Perfect for ages birth to 3 years old.

Also happening on Tuesday, June 4 at 3 p.m. is a special CROW Wildlife Program featuring a special animal guest. Volunteers from CROW- the Center for Rehabilitation of Wildlife- will be on-site to deliver a special program all about animal conservation.

Join Ms. Shannon on Wednesday, June 5 at 3 p.m. for a Crafternoon full of fun. A variety of craft supplies will be available along with examples of craft options to complete. Ms. Shannon will guide the program – perfect for ages four and up.

On Thursday, June 6 Adam’s Animal Encounters will allow patrons to interact with LIVE Animal Ambassadors such as snakes, lizards, turtles, alligators and more! Because of the interaction with live animals, ages 4 – 8 and their caregivers are invited to come to the 2:00 p.m. encounter and ages 8 – 18+ are invited to come to the 3:30 p.m. encounter.

• All Ages Programs

Anyone of all ages who loves storytelling, building characters or imagining worlds is welcomed to come to the monthly Creative Writing Program on Thursday, June 6 at 1 p.m. This program is structured with prompts and discussion open to any genre and writing form, whether fiction, poetry, screenplay, or nonfiction.

Virtual Author Talk

Upcoming Virtual Author Talks include: “For the Love of Mars – A Human History of the Red Planet” with Smithsonian Curator Matt Shindell on Monday, June 3 at 2 p.m. Head to the Library’s online calendar for links to register for these virtual talks. Sanibel Public Library offers “Computer Coach” services; book an appointment to bring in your device for technology assistance with Hoopla, Kanopy, Libby, and other Library apps. These apps allow Library cardholders to download eBooks, magazines, and audiobooks, or stream music and movies. Call the Library at (239) 472-2483 to schedule an appointment.

Sanibel Public Library cards are available to all residents of Sanibel and Lee County, at no charge. You must present your valid driver’s license (or similar government ID) to staff, showing your current Lee County address. Visitor cards are available for a $10 fee and are good for one year. Computers, printers, scanners, and fax service as well as magazines and daily newspapers are also available.
