Tank Found on Beach, Minor Crash, Half Dozen Animal Incidents

A tank was found on the beach on Oct. 26 in the 3000 block of West Gulf Drive. Sanibel Police responded to the scene and believed the tank belonged to the beach renourishment project on Captiva. There was no hazardous material present and the owners removed the tank.

Minor Two-Vehicle Crash

Kerry Weber of Palm Bay, Fla., was traveling east on Periwinkle Way at 12:25 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 when he slowed for traffic near Palm Ridge Road when the back of his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Robert Watts of Fort Myers.

Two iguanas were reported Nov. 6 in the 700 block of Vinca Way.

An injured tern was found Nov. 6 near the Sanibel Fishing Pier and transported to Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife for treatment.

Two coyotes sighted Nov. 7 on the side of the road in the 2600 block of West Gulf Drive.

An injured bird was found Nov. 8 at Sand Castle and Bailey roads and transported to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife for treatment.

A Police Officer was in the area of 264 Tarpon Bay Road on Nov. 8, when an injured bird was spotted. But the bird evaded capture.

Officers responded to the 700 block of Durion Court on Nov. 9 for a report of an alligator larger than 4 feet in a pond that appeared to have lost its fear of humans and had possibly been fed. Officers were unsuccessful in capturing the alligator and a trapper was contacted.
