Tarpon Bay’s boat ramp will be temporarily closed for motorized launches from June 1-15.

The Tarpon Bay Recreation’s boat ramp will be temporarily closed starting Tuesday, June 1, for motorized launches. Tarpon Bay’s parking lot is currently under renovation which is resulting in the temporary closure of the boat ramp until that section of the project is completed.

“The next phase of the project entails laying concrete for ADA accessibility and to create a more accessible path to the facility,” explained Project Leader of Southwest Florida’s Refuge Complex, Kevin Godsea.

The estimated completion date is June 15. Non-motorized vessels such as kayaks, canoes and standup paddleboards will still be allowed to launch from Tarpon Bay’s beach area.

Tarpon Bay Explorers, the concession to the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge and current occupant of the recreation area, will remain open while the parking lot experiences improvement.

“We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding during this time of transition. We are hoping to complete this phase as soon as possible so there will be no limitations to the public or our concession partner, Tarpon Bay Explorers,” stated Godsea.

Tarpon Bay Explorers provides informative, guided tours and recreational activities within the refuge. Visit www.tarponbayexplorers.com or call the gift shop at 239-472-8900 for more information.
