Transportation Master Plan Committee Holds First Meeting

by SC Reporter Emilie Alfino

The new Transportation Master Plan Steering Committee holds its first meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

A new steering committee, created from a grant the City of Sanibel received in April 2024 to develop a Transportation Master Plan, held its first meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 15, which was primarily administrative.

Consultant Vokert, Inc., presented a PowerPoint to the committee outlining plans for public involvement, public meeting notices, workshops, focus groups, and presentations to the Planning Commission and City Council.

The Transportation Master Plan Committee Members are Bill Millar, Committee of the Islands; Erika Steiner, Sanibel Planning Commission; Evelyn Stewart, Sanibel Captiva Chamber of Commerce; James Evans, Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation; and Pasquale Russo, citizen-at-large.

They will review the Transportation Element in the Sanibel Plan (Section 3.3.3). Commissioner Erika Steiner said, “I hope we bring the county into this somewhere along the line. Our traffic problems don’t stop at the four-way; they go across the causeway.”

The committee will meet again on Jan. 21, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at City Hall, 800 Dunlop Rd., and community input is welcome.
