The public hearing on the Bailey’s Shopping Center property has been continued to May 14 at the request of the applicant, property owners Bailey’s Center LLP and Periwinkle Adventures LLP. The applicant made the request because city staff recommended denial of the application, and they needed more time to revise their plans to address any concerns of staff. The parties had meetings prior to submittal of the application, as well as communication weekly, and the staff report was shared with the applicant. The continuance was granted by unanimous vote.

“This application is of great importance to the Sanibel Community,” Commissioner Lyman Welch said at the Tuesday, April 9 meeting, and asked whether workshops would be helpful. City Attorney John Agnew said the vehicle to have more time to discuss it is simply to continue it as is being done. “You may need to have a much longer meeting or multiple meetings,” Agnew explained. “That’s the vehicle to do that.”

Island Inn Road Subdivision Hearing Continued to May 28

The Island Inn Road Subdivision hearing was continued to May 28, with a condition. The deadline for the submission of a written response on how the application is compliant with the Sanibel Code is set for May 14. In addition, city staff will send an agenda with this attachment on May 15. It will likely be an incomplete agenda but will afford the public the benefit of time to review the submitted material. The continuance with the condition was granted by unanimous vote, with Commissioner Eric Pfeifer recusing himself.

In other Planning Commission news, 240 applications for permits were made in March.
