Two Minor Vehicle Crashes Result of Careless Driving

Thomas Engelke was traveling south on Dixie Beach Boulevard Thursday, June 2, when a vehicle operated by Renee Brand pulled into his lane of travel from Bunting Road. Engelke’s vehicle struck the back of Brand’s vehicle. Brand was issued a written warning for careless driving. No injuries were reported.

Joseph Altemus was stopped eastbound to make a right turn at 3889 Sanibel Captiva Rd. Tuesday, June 14, when the back of his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Joseph Banta. Banta was issued a citation for careless driving. No injuries were reported.

Animal Reports

Two police officers relocated a small alligator on Saturday, June 11 from a fenced area of a home on Robinwood Circle.

A coyote was sighted Monday, June 13 in the Sanibel Bayous neighborhood.

An alligator was reported Tuesday, June 14 on Roosevelt Place.

Three large adult iguanas were reported Thursday, June 16 in the vegetation along the Shared Use Path on Periwinkle Way and Donax Street.

Officers responded to the Beachview Tennis Club on Thursday, June 16 and “made contact with a rather agitated soft shell turtle” laying by the shop, the report stated. The upset turtle was aided back to the pond.
