The Sanibel Police Department was alerted on Tuesday, July 2, about distressed swimmers at Blind Pass Beach, prompting immediate response from various agencies. The Sanibel Fire District managed to rescue two swimmers; however, reports of a third missing individual led to a swift initiation of search and rescue operations.
The remains of the missing individual were discovered on Thursday, July 4, and identified as Isaac Breese, a 17-year-old North Fort Myers High School student. He was due to be a senior in the upcoming school year.
Sanibel Police Chief William Dalton confirmed the recovery of Breese’s remains by the Sanibel Police Marine Patrol Unit. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the State District 21 Medical Examiner aided in the positive identification of the remains.
It was a joint effort of several organizations, including the Sanibel Police Department, Sanibel Fire & Rescue District, Captiva Island Fire Control District, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and the US Coast Guard, that participated in the search and rescue operations.
Dalton expressed gratitude to all agencies involved and requested the public to remember Breese and his family in their thoughts.
