Thomas Klink of Pewaukee, Wisc., was charged with driving under the influence around midnight Sunday, Jan. 9, after Sanibel Police observed his vehicle traveling west on Periwinkle Way without taillights and pull into the parking lot of Over Easy Cafe, 630 Tarpon Bay Rd. Klink was found passed out at the wheel. He failed a field sobriety test and was booked into the Lee County Jail. He was released later that morning on a $1,000 bond.
Police responded to a three-vehicle crash at 1:32 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12 on Periwinkle Way at Mitizi Lane. Samantha Baker of Fort Myers was traveling west when she did not notice the vehicle in front of her, operated by William Kraus of Sanibel, come to a stop. Baker’s vehicle struck the back of Kraus’s vehicle causing his vehicle to strike the back of the stopped vehicle operated by Beverly Long of New Carlisle, Ind.
August Thoma of Sanibel was backing up his vehicle at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11 in the Sanibel Public Library parking lot when it struck an eastbound vehicle operated by Kenneth Hahn of South Carolina. No injuries were reported.
Lance Henderson of Lehigh Acres was traveling north on Casa Ybel Road at 11:12 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, when a vehicle operated by Osvaldo Martinez of Miama, Fla., pulled out from Middle Gulf Drive in front of him. Martinez was found at fault for failing to yield the right of way.
Animal Reports
Two bobcats were sighted Friday, Jan. 7 at Sunshine Island Inn on East Gulf Drive.
Two iguanas were sighted Sunday, Jan. 9 in the pool area of Pointe Santo on West Gulf Drive.
Police responded to the 2900 block of Wulfert Road on Sunday, Jan. 9 for a snake in a closet. The officer determined the snake was deceased and removed it. The rest of the room was checked and no other snakes were found.
A coyote was sighted Monday, Jan. 10 walking down Bay Drive.
An officer responded to the beach area near Nerita Street on Tuesday, Jan. 11 for an injured Pelican. But the bird retreated into the water and evaded capture.
An alligator was reported Wednesday, Jan. 12 in Dinkins Bayou. Caller said he saw the alligator about a month ago and feared for his safety, as well as the safety of others. But the responding officer could not locate an alligator in the area.
