Woman Charged with DUI Following Minor Vehicle Crash

A Lehigh Acres woman was charged with driving under the influence causing property damage, after a minor vehicle accident in which she was also cited for careless driving.

Humberto Ramirez, 47, Bridgeview, Ill., was traveling in the 1000 block of Periwinkle Way at 12:53 p.m. Friday, July 12, when he stopped for bicyclists in the crosswalk and the back of his vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by 29-year-old Emily Maucieri.

Police smelled alcohol on Maucieri, who failed a field sobriety test. A breath test later revealed her blood alcohol level to be three times the legal limit. Maucieri was booked into the Lee County Jail and released Saturday, July 13, on a $2,000 bond. No injuries were reported from the vehicle crash.

Robert Hartenstein, 66, Fort Myers, was cited for careless driving after his passenger fell off his motorcycle. Hartenstein was traveling north on Causeway Boulevard at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, when the rear left tire of his motorcycle struck the median causing passenger Sarah Sujko, 62, Fort Myers, to fall off the right side of the bike. Sujko was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Hit-and-Run Accidents

Police investigated a hit-and-run accident Friday, July 12, in the parking lot of Breakers West Condominiums, 3041 W. Gulf Dr. David Nieland, 47, Plantation, Fla., reported his vehicle had been damaged while parked in its space. Officers searched the area and found a vehicle belonging to Fabio Rodriguez, 52, Georgia, which had damage consistent with the hit-and-run. Rodriguez admitted it was his vehicle that crashed into Nieland’s vehicle and he was issued a criminal citation for leaving the scene with property damage.

Police investigated a second hit-and-run accident Monday, July 15, at the parking lot of Pinnochio’s Italian Ice Cream, 362 Periwinkle Way. The unoccupied vehicle of Mary Bisbano, 61, Pembroke Pines, Fla., was struck by a vehicle backing out of a parking space. A witness gave police a description of the driver and vehicle that fled the scene. Police searched the area and requested security camera footage from the business. The report did not indicate if the hit-and-run driver or vehicle had been located.

Other Minor Accidents

Annette Mulka, 57, was backing into a parking space at the Sanibel Lighthouse Beach at 12:52 p.m. Sunday, July 14, when her vehicle struck a vehicle operated by Miguel Barroso, 48, Miami, who was exiting his parking space.

Roger Rudolph, 59, Greencastle, Ind., was backing out of a parking space at Mudbugs Cajun Kitchen at 4:29 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, when his vehicle struck the parked vehicle of Jeanne Marquez, 57, Brooksville, Fla.

Susan Kaufman, 57, Sorrento, Fla., and Margaret Kish, 77, Sanibel, were waiting to exit the parking lot of Bank of America, 2040 Periwinkle Way, at 11:28 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, when Kaufman put her vehicle into reverse and it struck the front of Kish’s vehicle.

Maxwell Fleming, 18, Fort Myers, was making a left turn onto Periwinkle Way from Casa Ybel Road at 3:02 p.m. Thursday, July 18, when his vehicle struck the driver’s side of a vehicle operated by Marleen Folgo, 80, who was traveling on Periwinkle Way.
