Zonta Collections Support Service Groups

provided to Santiva Chronicle

The Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva recently held a drive to help several non-profits with which the club has a service relationship. Zontians Judy Baran and Kelly Turnage organized the drive, asking the membership to donate from this list: for F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva, items for Back-to-School Supplies and the new Senior Boxes project; for the PACE Center for Girls Lee County, dresses and accessories for the annual fund raiser “Love That Dress!”; and for the women in recovery programs at SalusCare of Fort Myers, art supplies.

The Back-to-School program will help defray the expense of needed supplies for school-aged children whose parents are facing economic challenges, and Senior Boxes will be packed with items to ease the isolation felt by elderly F.I.S.H. clients, due to stay-at-home orders.

For the PACE Center, Zontians donated over 45 new and gently-worn dresses, 20 pairs of shoes, 16 handbags, and numerous other clothing pieces, accessories and jewelry. SalusCare received a variety of arts and craft supplies including drawing pads, markers and colored pencils.

Fifteen Zontians participated, gathering items, including some monetary contributions, from family, neighbors and co-workers and placing them in bags for safe, front-door pick-up by Baran and Turnage, who then organized and delivered them to the recipients.

“Thank you to our Zontians for stepping up to fill a need and strengthen bonds with our hard-working service organizations,” said Judy Baran.

The Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva is a service organization of professional women working together to provide hands-on assistance, advocacy and funds to empower women and girls on the islands, in Lee County and around the world; visit http://www.zontasancap.com.
