At the Zonta District 11 annual conference in October in Coral Gables, FL, the Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva received the highest honor, winning the Governor’s Cup as outstanding club of the year. District 11 is divided into six Areas and comprises 36 clubs in the Southeast.
Zonta SanCap has won the Governor’s Cup several times in the past, but not since the devastation of Hurricane Ian in 2022.
President Taryn Manning said, “I want to congratulate and thank each and every member for outstanding work this year. We’ve been through a lot in the past few years, and we’ve continued to stand by our community. Let’s now look forward to how we can keep building a better world for women and girls!”
The award is based on each club’s annual report, covering all aspects of the club’s activities during the year in service, fundraising, and advocacy.
In addition to Zonta SanCap, which is in Area 6, the finalists for the Governor’s Cup this year were: Area 1: Zonta Club of Birmingham; Area 2: Zonta Club of Franklin; Area 3: Zonta Club of Greater Deerfield Beach; Area 4: Zonta Club of Melbourne & Zonta Club of The Villages; Area 5: Zonta Club of Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Attending the conference with Taryn Manning were Karen Pati, Judy Langley, Marla Manning, and Jill Wisniewski. Club members are now busy with holiday service activities, planning the distribution of nearly $90,000 in local grants, and preparing for the next Peek at the Unique home tour, set for March 14, 2026.
