An Alva man was charged with driving under the influence after failing to stop at an intersection.
Marcus Turner, 46, was traveling south on Tarpon Bay Road at 10:30 p.m. Friday, July 10, when a Sanibel Police Officer observed his vehicle fail to stop at the Periwinkle Way intersection. Turner smelled of alcohol and had difficulty locating his wallet, as well as providing his name and address to the officer.
Turner performed poorly on the field sobriety test and twice refused a breath test. He was charged with a DUI including refusal to submit to a breathalyzer after a license suspension. He was booked into the Lee County Jail and released July 11 on a $5,000 bond.
Two-Vehicle Crash
Two vehicles collided Tuesday, July 14 at the intersection of Periwinkle Way and Lindgren Boulevard. Patricia Benalcazar, 57, Cape Coral, was traveling north onto Causeway Boulevard when her vehicle was struck by an eastbound vehicle operated by Matthew Sturgill, 47, Pittsburgh, Penn. No injuries were reported.
