Bicyclist Injured In Crash; Driver Runs Over Pedestrian Sign

A bicyclist was injured in crash with a vehicle. Susan Harlon of Terre Haute, Ind., was riding her bike Sunday, Feb. 27, traveling east on the shared use path along Periwinkle Way, when she was struck by a vehicle operated by Charles Ball of Sanibel.

Ball was also traveling east on Periwinkle and making a right turn into the parking lot of 1711 Periwinkle Way, when his vehicle collided with Harlon and her bicycle. Harlon was transported to HealthPark Medical Center, Fort Myers, for treatment of her injuries.

Two witnesses observed a vehicle strike a pedestrian sign, removing it from the ground, at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, March 5 in the 6500 block of Pine Avenue and leave the scene. Officers made contact with the driver, Stanley Goldstein of Netwon, Mass., who said he struck the sign after realizing he was driving on the shared use path and corrected to the roadway.

Jessica Mt. Pleasant of Lehigh Acres reported her vehicle had been side-swiped Friday, March 4 while it was parked on Rue Bayou in the Chateaux Sur Mer neighborhood.

Animal Reports

A bicyclist reported an alligator on Monday, March 7 just off the bike path behind Bailey’s General Store.

A deceased loon was found on the beach Wednesday, March 9 at Algiers Park and removed.

The howling of coyotes was reported at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 near Causeway Boulevard, but the animals were not observed.
