The Sanibel Bicycle Club and Billy’s Bikes will be hosting the annual “Ride of Silence” on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 7 p.m. Since May 2008, the Sanibel Bicycle Club has organized a local “Ride of Silence” to honor fellow cyclists who have been killed or injured in cycling accidents and to raise awareness for everyone to share the road in a safe and respectful manner.
The Ride of Silence is a worldwide event that began in 2003 in Dallas, TX, and continues to take place at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of May each year. Club members, friends, neighbors, and members of the community are invited to join for a short, silent, slow ride along a portion of Sanibel’s shared-use paths.
This year’s ride will begin at the Sanibel Community Park on Periwinkle Way and follow the shared-use path from Casa Ybel to Tarpon Bay and return on Periwinkle Way for approximately a 4.5-mile route. Helmets are required for all participants. Please plan to arrive for waiver signing and announcements no later than 6:45 pm.
