UPDATE: The chapel has canceled worship services for the remainder of the season.

The historic Chapel by the Sea on Captiva Island held its Sunday, March 15, service outdoors as a COVID-19 precaution. Pastor Larry Marshall told worshipers the 10 a.m. Lenten Bible Study on Tuesday, March 17, and the service at noon on Wednesday, March 18, will also be held outside as people are encouraged to practice social distancing.

“We are blessed to have an outside venue in the fresh air with plenty of room to spread out,” said longtime Captiva resident and Chapel Board Chairman Nathalie Pyle. “We will evaluate on a weekly basis if it is prudent to hold our Sunday morning worship service. We approach the current crisis with common sense and prayer asking for God’s peace.”

“Hospitality time” following worship, when drinks and cookies are normally serviced, has been curtailed.
