Licensed Gettysburg Battefiled Guide Bill Trelease will return to the Captiva Civic Association for a presentation focused on Ulysses S. Grant and the Civil War.

“A Look Into Ulysses S. Grant’s Civil War” will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2 at the CCA’s Civic Center, 11550 Chapin Lane, with a virtual option through Zoom.

Trelease has dedicated his retirement years to diving deep into Civil War history, further pursuing a lifelong passion. His storytelling and thoughtful insight into this important time in our nation’s history is not be missed. CCA Executive Director Emily Ankerson said she is really looking forward to the presentation by Trelease and expects a full house.

“We have had Mr. Trelease present at the CCA in the past and everyone I have spoken with has raved about his talk, as well as the incredible knowledge he has to share about the Civil War,” said Ankerson. “We are very fortunate Mr. Trelease is coming back to give his talk in person.”

The presentation will focus on Grant’s life, personal trials and triumphs, and his crucial role in the Civil War. Captiva Island Historical Society President Tom Libonate said he returns time and time again to the Gettysburg battlefiled with Trelease, after taking his first private tour. He’s been 10 times in total with Trelease.

“Bill is not only the consummate docent, his interpretation and insight of the battlefield and Civil War so keen, yet it’s the way he presents the subject with passion and easy to comprehend style and manner,” said Libonate, who is also a member of the CCA, as many members are history enthusiasts.

Ankerson said CCA tries to bring a “wide variety of programming to the Civic Center. Our goal is to have something for everyone in our community.”

The presentation is free of charge and open to the public with limited space. Registration is required and can be done at Eventbrite or by contacting the CCA administrative office at info@ccacaptiva.org or 239-472-2111.
