Chamber representatives joined Priscilla’s of Sanibel for a ribbon-cutting celebration.

On Wednesday Jan. 20, the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce celebrated the November 2020 opening of Priscilla’s of Sanibel women’s shop, 2340 Periwinkle Way. Inspired by stories of legendary Sanibel realtor Priscilla Murphy, Maari Simcox, recently relocated from Hugo, Minn., designed the store to honor and celebrate women and island history.

“Above all, my store is known for bringing happiness and positivity to everyone who walks through my door,” said Simcox, who moved to Sanibel in August 2020 with her husband and two kids to work remotely during the pandemic. “It has been such a joy in these first few months watching girls, women, and men of all ages come in and learn about the history of the island and take away something that brings them joy, strength, and positivity.”

The Simcox family had planned on a temporary stay on Sanibel with Maari’s parents, but quickly ended up with their own place and a brand-new store. It specializes in a wide selection of handmade, women-made, unique gifts including clothing and accessories, jewelry, children’s gifts, home décor, beauty and self-care products, and stationery. It also operates an e-commerce store at priscillasofsanibel.com.

“Priscilla’s fills a unique niche for Sanibel shoppers while making them aware of some little-known aspects of island history,” said John Lai, chamber president and chief executive office. “We welcome its innovation to our retail scene and community.”

“I am thrilled to be partnering as a member with the chamber,” said Simcox. “Their mission to foster and preserve community and educate tourists about the island is integral to my store and our purpose.”
