Alison Reece discovered her passion for the natural environment during her childhood vacations on Sanibel Island, where she now works for the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation and lives thanks to Community Housing & Resources.
“I fell in love with the island,” Reece said of those annual trips spent in the sunshine shelling on the beach. “That morphed into a love for the environment. I’m so passionate about educating people on our ecosystem and how people can help conserve it.”
Reese rented a vacation home after coming to the island, but when the owners decided to sell after the recent hurricanes, she called CHR.
“Sanibel is such a beautiful place to live,” she said. “It has always been my dream to work here and live here. (But) it’s very difficult for many workers to afford it. I’m grateful CHR makes it possible.”
Reece moved into her new place last November, and she said the organization kept her informed throughout the process and worked hard after the storms to get her into her new home.
“I highly recommend CHR,” she said. “They understand the culture here and the unique situation many workers like me face.”
