City Changes Special Event Fees

by SC Reporter Emilie Alfino

The Sanibel City Council voted unanimously to update the schedule of fees related to special event permitting as follows:
• For approved permits, a $100 additional fee would be assessed for any request for a substantial change in key event components such as date, time, location, etc. The fee may be waived if the change in the key event is due to a natural disaster such as a hurricane.
• A permit placard mailing fee of $25 will be assessed if it is requested for special event placards to be mailed instead of the applicant picking the placard up at the Recreation Center.
• The fee to rent City Hall grounds has been reduced to $1,000 for residents and $2,000 for nonresidents. Based on City Council feedback in May, the fee was reduced from $1,800 for residents and $2,250 for nonresidents.
• The daily rental fee for Community Park for residents is $475 and for nonresidents is $950. Based on City Council feedback in May, the nonresident fee was increased from $575 to $950, or double the resident fee.
